Bariatric Surgery Nutrition Services

At Nutrition Link Services, we are Registered Dietitians that practice an integrative and functional approach to counsel your patients with appropriate diets following Bariatric Surgery.

Bariatric surgery can improve many health problems related to obesity, such as type 2 Diabetes, high blood pressure, unhealthy cholesterol levels, and sleep apnea. Surgery may lead to improved physical function, mood, and better quality of life.

The Four Stages Diet Plan:

Stage I

1-2 days- Diet during your hospital stay

Clear Liquids: 1-2 ounces (30-60mL) of fluid per hour.

Stage II

2-3 weeks- Full Liquids.

Once you are able to tolerate clear liquids for 24 hours, you will be allowed to have full liquids, no sugar, and no carbonated beverages that include milk products.

Snack options for full liquid diets: Sugar-free non-fat smooth yogurt, skim or 1% milk, low fat tomato soup (no chunks), sugar-free pudding etc.

Stage III

3-6 weeks-Puree diet. Begin to add pureed or baby foods.

No sugar, no carbonated beverages.

This diet is for 3-6 weeks or per your physician, to allow time for your stomach to heal properly.

Stage IV

Low fat solid foods.

Once you have been tolerating pureed and soft foods you may try low fat, solid foods.

No sugar, no carbonated beverages.

Surgery may lead to improved physical function, mood, and better quality of life.
